Moundridge residents have a new option when it comes to having their healthcare needs met.
Verity Health and Aesthetics officially opened for business at 131 S. Christian on Aug. 1 with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“We’re filling a void of after-hours medicine,” owner and operator Angela Azzarito said. “I’m not an ER. I’m not an urgent care.”
Instead, Verity offers concierge medicine.
“What that means is we have memberships available for a monthly fee,” Azzarito said. “I’m available at hours that most offices are not, and I can hopefully keep people out of the ER.”
Azzarito said many of her patients have high deductibles, so she can provide help at an affordable price.
“There’s a niche for people who fall through the cracks, who need to be seen, but need a low-cost option,” she said.
Having been a nurse practitioner and a trauma ICU nurse for many years, caring for the well-being of others is something Azzarito cares about deeply, especially after her husband Adam died in a work accident when her children were young.
“I thought to myself that I really needed a bad thing to be a good thing,” she said. “I had a horrible experience, and then a really positive experience with the nursing staff. That’s why I became a nurse.”
Along with fellow registered nurse Jennifer McConnaughy, the Verity team leverages science to care for their patients.
“We’re steeped in science,” Azzarito said. “While I do believe in holistic medicine in terms of treating the whole person, we are an evidence-based practice.”
Verity offers more than medical services, though.
“We’re a med spa,” Azzarito said.
This includes medically managed weight loss, sports physicals, offering space for events, and aesthetics like facials and waxing by aesthetician Kinley Ruddle.
“We do neuromodulators, so what people think of as Botox, as well as micro needling and chemical peels,” Azzarito said. “We’ll continue to add services in the next year.”
The goal is to create a welcoming environment that provides community members with a way to have some of their needs met.
“I think the world is really hard right now,” Azzarito said. “I think sometimes it’s OK to have a place where you can experience something purely enjoyable.”
Aiming to help people in this way extends beyond the individual for Azzarito.
“We’ve always found a lot of value in community,” she said. “I’m a huge proponent of trying to leave things better than we found them.”
This entails supporting local businesses.
“We grow small towns by small businesses turning out for small businesses,” Azzarito said. “I’m not here to tear anybody down. I’m not here to take away from anybody.”
The mentality of helping and supporting others is at the core of who Azzarito is.
“I believe if you put good out, good comes back,” she said.
