The baseball and softball season ended June 30.
It was a wonderful month of games with very few being rained out.
We had approximately 230 kids out, which is up from last year.
Also, this year we were able to field a 16-and-under Babe Ruth team for the first time in several years.
This is important for the fact that some of these kids will miss out on two years of baseball and either be behind or just not go out for the sport in High School.
Thanks to all the coaches and umpires who took time out of their busy summer schedule to help and make the season fun for everyone.
With the season finished, we will start working on projects to make next year’s season even better.
With a generous donation from The Grasshopper Company, we will be replacing the press box that has seen better days.
We will be buying two metal containers that will be stacked on top of each other.
The bottom half will be for storage of all the necessary tools and equipment to get the fields ready to play, and the top will be modified with windows to be used as the press box.
With them being metal, they should last for a long time without much maintenance.
We would like to thank Grasshopper for their continued support and dedication to future ball players who play on Grasshopper Field, which will also be getting new upgrades in the future as well. Keep an eye out for those changes as well.
Pool continues successful summer
The Moundridge Swimming Pool has had a successful month since opening, including people renting it for parties.
We have also had our first night swim with Karaoke.
There will be a couple more night swims this season so make sure you follow the Recreation Commission’s Facebook page to see the days and times.
Kids 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Pool hours are 1-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 2-7 p.m. on Sunday.
Entry to the facility costs $3 for children under 18 and $4 for adults.
Fall flag football, volleyball start soon
Flag football and volleyball will be here before you know it, so be on the lookout for me at school enrollment events or watch our Facebook page for sign-up forms.
Forms will be due Aug. 14.
Late forms accepted until Aug. 19, but a $20 late fee will be added after Aug. 14.
No forms will be accepted after Aug. 19.
