For the third year, the Hub Brick Oven and Brewery hosted its annual Hub Harvest Fest on Sept. 26 in the 100 block of South Christian Avenue.
The event began with a cornhole tournament to raise money for CASA, the Court Appointed Special Advocate program. Through this program, trained community volunteers are appointed by the judges to speak for the best interests of children who are brought before the court for reasons of abuse or neglect.
In addition to its indoor tap wall, the Hub’s tap trailer was also on hand, serving beer and seltzer, and The Hub’s normal food operations were active.
Vendors and inflatables provided visitors with additional opportunities to enjoy downtown Moundridge.
At 4:45 p.m., Foolish Endeavors took the main stage south of the four-way intersection, bringing their fun and energetic performance back to Moundridge.
Then, at 7:30 p.m., Oklahoma country music artist Emily Hollingshed took the stage.
Hollingshed’s has opened for or played with big-time acts such as Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland, and the Zach Top/Dierks Bentley tour.
Before the music started, though, a special event took place on the main stage, which was turned into “The Pig Pen.”
In collaboration with the Plains Pilot, Hub Harvest Fest featured its inaugural eating competition, called the Pizza Pig-Out.
It cost $10 to enter the contest, which required competitors to eat at least three whole pizzas, crust and all, in 30 minutes or less.
First, they had to tackle a cheese pizza. Then, they faced a pepperoni pizza. Finally, a Porky Pie was served.
In the event of a tie, the winner would have been determined with a vanilla milkshake chugging contest.
Eli Cornio and Brayden Rupp both got most of the way through their third pizzas, essentially tying. Rupp declined to chug a milkshake, so he was named runner-up, leaving Corino as the champion.
Corino won the pot of entry money, along with a championship shirt and hat provided by the Plains Pilot. Rupp received a hat and a runner-up shirt.
